I was invited to give a lecture about ChatGPT a UMass First Year Seminar entitled Exploring Modern Computing. It was challenging to come up with a way to share meaningful insights about LLMs with a group that had limited programming experience.
I decided to present at early chatbot β ELIZA β whose inner workings are accessible with just basic programming knowledge. The parallels between this 1960s system and modern LLMs were surprisingly illuminating! (Jump to 13:47 in the video)
